SBCS, formerly known as South Bay Community Services, will hold its 8th annual “Neighbor Day Festival” on Saturday, May 17, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Lauderbach Park, 333 Oxford St., Chula Vista.
The free, family-friendly event aims to foster connections among community members and strengthen local support networks. The celebration is a collaboration between SBCS and the Chula Vista Police and Fire Departments, who will open the event with a free pancake breakfast at 9 a.m.
Neighbor Day originated in 2017 through SBCS’s Resident Leadership Academy as a way to bring neighbors together and support isolated community members, such as the elderly and homebound. It has since grown into a yearly tradition that includes entertainment, live music and activities for all ages. The event has even been formally recognized by a proclamation from the City of Chula Vista.
“When neighbors know each other, they look out for each other,” said Mauricio Torre, chief program officer at SBCS. “This fun, family-friendly event not only celebrates the importance of fostering relationships but highlights the progress we’ve made in the South Bay to build connected and resilient communities.”
The event is open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to carpool, bike or use public transportation. Picnic blankets and chairs are recommended for comfort during the festivities.
